2025/26 Ref Information

Ref Certification Information for 2025/26 Season

PLEASE NOTE - as of August 18, NE Officials Committee says they will be cancelling in person clinic registrations if the online module has not been completed prior to registration for the in person clinic.  The original information provided was that the module only had to be completed prior to the in person clinic.  If your in person clinic registration is cancelled, please complete the online module and try again.

New this year there is an online module that is a pre-requisite for all returning officials regardless of level. These will be linked to each clinic and are provided below.  These will need to be completed by the official by noon on the Friday before the clinic or their registration in the clinic will be cancelled, no exceptions.  This online module has the test in it, so the officials will complete the testing prior to attending the clinic.  This is for all returning officials regardless of level or age.  The clinic instructors will NOT be administering the test.

Officials will ALSO need to register for an in person clinic (see below).

All new officials will need to take the Intro to Officiating module (linked below).  Once they have completed the in person portion, they will do the online test portion through Spordle.  If they feel confident enough, they are welcome to tackle the online test before the in person clinic, but they are not required to.

Criminal Record Check - Adult Officials

For officials needing criminal records checks, this process takes about a week from start to finish. The BackCheck portion will return in 2-4 hours if all goes well but it takes 2-3 business days for those results to get to Hockey Alberta and get uploaded into the official’s spordle account. If the official hasn't started this process at least 1 week prior to the clinic, then they likely won't get it done in time.  Only criminal record checks obtained from BackCheck through the link on the Hockey Alberta website will be accepted.

Please note that identify verification is required.  The online process is through TransUnion Authentication.  If you are unable to pass the online verification or choose not to use it, you will need additional time to have your identification verified in person at a Canada Post location.
